    A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Since January 2001, Canadian actor Charles Ross has been entertaining audiences all over the continent with his One Man Star Wars Trilogy, in which he enacts—by himself—George Lucas’ first three epic Star Wars films. And he does it in only an hour! One Man Star Wars Trilogy is now running Off Broadway at the Lamb’s Theatre in New York, and Ross joins John Schaefer to perform excepts from his show and to talk about how he turned his obsession with the movie Trilogy into a compelling and very funny work for the stage. Irwin Chusid, author of Songs in the Key of Z: The Curious Universe of Outsider Musicians, joins us on the second half of the show to discuss the compellingly strange singer/experimental guitarist Jandek. Jandek has recorded 28 albums, but almost never grants interviews. Chusid will also talk about the music and life of idiosyncratic New Jersey scat legend William “Shooby” Taylor.

Sound Off

Soundcheck

Throughout May, Soundcheck presents “Sound Off” a Friday series on the many aspects of noise in music and our lives. The series -- which coincides with “Better Hearing and Speech Month” -- looks at issues like New York’s noisiest neighborhoods, the latest research on iPods and hearing loss, and what happens when noise becomes a musical ingredient.
