    Rebel Without a Pause

The Rebel Baroque Ensemble is named for French baroque composer Jean-Fery Rebel, who wrote music that jolted audiences of his day. But judging by the title of the group's upcoming program at the Caramoor Festival you might call them artistic rebels as well. They’ll feature Gallic music with violins, bagpipes and accordions for a centuries-spanning concert titled "From the French Court to the Cajun Kitchen” and members of the ensemble join us today with a preview. We then turn our attention to the late Mary Lou Williams (1910-1981), who is generally regarded as our greatest female jazz musician, having composed and arranged for Duke Ellington and Dizzy Gillespie and influenced scores of pianists. Today we’re joined by Father Peter O’Brien, Williams' last manager and director of the Mary Lou Williams Foundation, who previews a new CD collection of her performances.
