Songwriter Jim WhiteSouthern Journeys and One-Dollar Songs
Often described as a "Southern gothic" songwriter, Jim White joins host John Schaefer today to talk about his new album, “Drill a Hole in That Substrate and Tell Me What You See,” which reveals an irreverent sense of humor as he describes the eccentric Bible Belt of his native Pensacola, Florida. White’s songs have won critical notice for their blend of religious imagery, metaphysics, rural folksiness and surrealist humor and he’ll perform a selection of them live in the WNYC performance studio. We’re also joined by David Pogue, New York Times “Circuits” section columnist who sheds light on the $1-a-Song trend that’s sweeping the Online music world. Sony is just the latest company to join Apple, Napster, Musicmatch, RealNetworks, and even Wal-Mart at offering these popular downloads.
