Scottish percussion virtuoso Evelyn Glennie (Eric Richmond)Bang a Gong
Scottish percussion virtuoso Evelyn Glennie has worked tirelessly to expand the solo percussion repertoire, and this week, she joins the Eos Orchestra to premiere works by two very different New York composers: Ned Rorem and David Lang. She stops by with a preview. Also on the show, part two of our conversation with New Yorker music critic Alex Ross. In a recent essay, he described how terms like "classical" and "popular" are too confining, and do justice to neither genre. He added: "I hate 'classical music': not the thing but the name. It traps a tenaciously living art in a theme park of the past."
