Points de Fuite - Maguy Marin (Festival de Danse)Sleepless in Seattle
Throughout the 1980s and 90s Gerard Schwarz was a household name for New York concertgoers, both as the music director of the New York Chamber Symphony and of the Mostly Mozart Festival. Since leaving both posts in 2001, he's focused on his successful music directorships of the Seattle Symphony and Liverpool Philharmonic. Now back in town for Seattle's Carnegie Hall debutas part of its centenary seasonSchwarz joins us to discuss why Seattle may be the most underrated orchestra in the United States, as demonstrated in several new recordings for Naxos. Also on the show, the French choreographer Maguy Marin. Her eight-member company appears at the Joyce Theater this week with "Les applaudissements ne se mangent pas" (One Can't Eat Applause). While her work is known for its strong political and social content, music is also right at the forefront.
