  • The Year 2003 in Classical Music and Opera

The year 2003 in music was full of twists and turns, and so all this week on Soundcheck, some of New York's leading music journalists and critics will stop by to help make sense of it all. "Critics Week" delves into the highlights in concerts, recordings, and industry trends in classical, pop, jazz and world music. Anthony Tommasini, chief classical music critic of New York Times, leads off the series by looking at the ups and downs at New York's major concert halls, the changes in the makeup of audiences, and some noteworthy piano recitals, among other topics. And Fred Plotkin, author of Classical Music 101 and Opera 101, shares some of his highlights from the world of vocal music and opera.
