  • 'Tis the Season

The New Year's Eve countdown has already begun. Today on Soundcheck, we get an early look at December 31st festivities taking place around New York this year with music writer and composer Danny Felsenfeld. Also, we look at the Milken Archive of American Jewish Music, a vast project conceived by the philanthropist Lowell Milken and distributed on the Naxos label that will eventually include more than 90 CDs of music by 200 classical and popular composers. Among the releases is a disc of Hanukah selections featuring old favorites and new discoveries by Hugo Adler, Samuel Adler, Aaron Miller and other composers. The organization’s artist & repertoire advisor Paul Schwendener drops by to talk about the project. And the Western Wind Vocal Ensemble, a New York-based vocal sextet, drops by with some songs for both Christmas and Hanukah.
