More Bang for your Buck
Airs weekdays at 2PM
The American soprano Lorraine Hunt Lieberson cast the cantatas of J.S. Bach in a dramatic new light, first as part of an acclaimed staging by Peter Sellars, and more recently, on a recording for Nonesuch. She joins us to discuss the powerful subtexts of these Baroque masterpieces. We’re joined by Bang on a Can creators Michael Gordon, David Lang, and Julia Wolfe, who have teemed up with director Barry Edelstein for their latest multimedia work, The New Yorkers. This sprawling production, which appears this week at BAM, incorporates music of the string quartet Ethel, cabaret performer Theo Bleckmann and the Bang on a Can All-Stars with the text of Lou Reed, cartoons of Ben Katchor, film footage of Bill Morrison, videos by William Wegman and Doug Aitken, visual art by Laurie Olinder to portray the urban landscape of New York City.
