    Hungarian Epics and Superstar Sopranos

Renée Fleming is known as one of the most celebrated sopranos in the opera world today, yet she has often avoided the most familiar repertory, including the iconic Puccini and Verdi roles. This career strategy changed dramatically recently when the Metropolitan Opera opened its new season with Fleming starring as Violetta in Verdi's "La Traviata.” She joins us on Soundcheck to talk about her spectacular career, her repertory choices, and more. Also on the program is Zoltan Kocsis, the pianist, conductor, and arranger who pays homage to his Hungarian roots through his trailblazing interpretations of Bartok, Liszt and Kurtag.
