    Continuing a Tradition

Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, there was a long tradition of composers who were also virtuoso pianists. Composer/pianist Lera Auerbach is continuing a tradition that has included titans like Liszt and Rachmaninoff, and, at a very young age, she has already gained great critical success for her work. Today she joins us in the studio for a conversation about her music and will perform live with violinist Vadim Gluzman. Plus, we will kick off our coverage of this weekend's opening of Carnegie Hall’s new space Zankel Hall when we speak with Ara Guzelimian, the artistic advisor of Carnegie Hall. He stops by to tell us about the process of programming the music for this new venue.
