Papa's Got a Brand New Bag

New York City-based ensemble The Four Bags, comprised of accordion, trombone, guitar, and woodwinds, are in the Soundcheck studio today. The highly entertaining ensemble gives us a live performance and discusses their reworkings of old classics. And Cuban emigre Jose Raul Bernardo has spent the last 40 years in the U.S. as a novelist (The Secret of the Bulls, The Wise Women of Havana) and award-winning composer. He visits today to talk about his new work for the Queen's Chamber Band.

WNYC cultural reporter Judith Kampfner joins Soundcheck to discuss her recent trip to South Korea, where she attended the 2003 International Festival of Women in Music Seoul. During her trip, Judith filed a daily Weblog from the capital city of Seoul. Click here for Judith's observations on Korean culture, history, and society.
