High Voices and Deep Listening
Countertenor Terrance Barber has shared the stage with Placido Domingo and been the featured soloist in that already amazing group of singers, Chanticleer. Terrance stops by the studio today, as does composer Pauline Oliveros, a 50 year veteran of creating experimental music. Her “Deep Listening Band” plays tonight. And our weekly CD review is by Ken Goldsmith from the New York Press.
Additional Resources:
Pauline Oliveros created an approach to music making that she and her band will follow tonight. In her own words, “Deep Listening" (SM) is listening in every possible way to everything possible to hear no matter what you are doing. Such intense listening includes the sounds of daily life, of nature, or one's own thoughts as well as musical sounds. Deep Listening represents a heightened state of awareness and connects to all that there is. As a composer I make my music through Deep Listening."

The Ill Effects of Urban Noise
Soundcheck
Soundcheck received an overwhelming response to our segment on the effects of urban noise. So much so that Arline Bronzaft decided to address the feedback. Listen to the original segment and read Bronzaft's response.
