    Divine Divahn’s Diaspora Ditties

Don’t call it klezmer! The all-female vocal quartet Divahn performs songs that blend grooves from all types of Middle Eastern music with Hebrew, Judeo-Spanish, Persian and Aramaic lyrics. They’re also anthropologists and ethnomusicologists, so expect to hear the full story of this fascinating music. We also welcome music writer Danny Felsenfeld, who will talk about what composers are doing to relate to their audiences.

Sound Off

Soundcheck

Throughout May, Soundcheck presents “Sound Off” a Friday series on the many aspects of noise in music and our lives. The series -- which coincides with “Better Hearing and Speech Month” -- looks at issues like New York’s noisiest neighborhoods, the latest research on iPods and hearing loss, and what happens when noise becomes a musical ingredient.
