    Drop the Needle

Drummer Billy Martin is one-third of the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink jazz trio Medeski Martin and Wood. (They cover funk, blues, and other genres, as well). Last summer, Martin held court at the Turntable Sessions performances, which featured improvisational collaborations with DJs, singers, and world musicians. The drummer stops by the studio to discuss his latest endeavors, including performance side projects and a new breakbeat and remix album.

Among Medeski Martin and Wood’s upcoming projects are a fall tour to Japan, Europe, and the eastern U.S., a CD of live tunes recorded at the Lower East Side club Tonic, and Billy Martin’s solo percussion album, set for a November release through his own Amulet Records label.
