  • American composers are creating new works for our times!

We’ll hear a diverse assortment of new works from American composers.

Eclectic accordian player Guy Klucevsek has a new album out, and we’ll have a chance to listen in. The American Opera Projects’ Family Opera Initiative has commissioned a new comic opera called Fireworks. Composer Kitty Brazelton and lyricist Billy Aronson stop by to tell us about the work. And cellist Maya Beiser was very busy at the Meet the Composers marathon a few weeks ago. She premiered several works and performed others written for her in the past. She brings us a recording of one of those premieres, composed by Osvaldo Golijov.

Sound Off

Soundcheck

Throughout May, Soundcheck presents “Sound Off” a Friday series on the many aspects of noise in music and our lives. The series -- which coincides with “Better Hearing and Speech Month” -- looks at issues like New York’s noisiest neighborhoods, the latest research on iPods and hearing loss, and what happens when noise becomes a musical ingredient.
