Young People's Chorus Concert Choir - 2004 Choir Olympics, Bremen (YPC)

Tales out of School

Thursday, November 04, 2004

Now in its second year, WNYC’s resident Young People’s Radio Chorus returns to the Soundcheck studios. Conducted by Francisco J. Núñez, the chorus features children from diverse backgrounds representing a number of New York Public Schools. Today they share the music and their memories of their summer adventures— from winning two gold medals at the 2004 Choir Olympics in Bremen, Germany, to representing the City of New York on three significant occasions: the dedication of the Freedom Tower and the 9/11 commemorations at ground zero and the reopening of the Statue of Liberty. The chorus also performs a recent piece by American composer Judith Weir. Also on the show, filmmaker John Bush discusses a new documentary looking at the legendary temples of Angkor in Cambodia, the spiritual sites of Bali and finally the marvel of Buddhist Borobudur in Java.
