Every day I write stuff on the Soundcheck blog, usually because I’ve thought a bit about the subject of the show. Today I just didn’t feel like it. It’s not that I’m lazy, or slothful. It’s not because I haven’t thought long and hard about today’s program. I have. Quite a lot, in fact, because I just don’t know what to make of Cintra Wilson’s list of songs for this week’s Deadly Sin, sloth. I mean, Bowie’s “Warszawa”? How is that slothful? As Ricky Ricardo might’ve said, “Cintra, you have some ‘splainin’ to do.”
Anyway, I had a far easier time with Jody Rosen’s list, and it’s nice to see that all these old blues and jazz musicians were mining the whole slacker rock thing so many decades before bands like Pavement came along. Speaking of which, where are all the slackers on these lists?
Tell us, if you feel up to it: whose music suggests idleness, indolence, sloth? Does it work for you?
