WNYC's John Schaefer and Soundcheck are heading to Austin next week for the 2008 South by Southwest Music Festival. Or, as it's more efficiently known: SXSW. A print-only acronym if we've ever seen one. ("Sick-soo?" "Sack-saw?" Ah, nevermind.)
Soundcheck will broadcast live at 2 p.m. ET / 1 p.m CT from SXSW on Wednesday, March 12 and Thursday, March 13. Join John Schaefer for live performances from Austin's own Peter and the Wolf, the warped British soul act The Heavy, and others. Plus, find out what's happening at this year's festival, who's coming and why. A new study says there's something like $95 million at stake for the city. And we hear the music industry is kinda invested, too.
Keep checking the Soundcheck On Site: SXSW blog for updates from the staff. In the meantime, memorize as much of the band schedule as you can. There will be a quiz.
