New Yorkers may be most familiar with the Atlanta indie scene through the much-adored music of Deerhunter, but it should come as no surprise that the sprawling capital of the “New South” has more to offer. Stokeswood is a big deal in the Georgia metropolis, winning fans with a fine attention to melody and sound that combines rock 'n’ roll, jazzy harmonies and electro-pop sensibilities. The band’s upcoming album In the Field of the Vibrations goes deeper in the electronic direction. This song, “The Old 4th Ward,” comes from the band’s previous album Carassia. Named for an Altanta neighborhood, the song features a lighting-fast dance beat dressed up in bittersweet harmonies along with singer Adam Patterson’s sweet-as-honey vocal stylings.
