“Old Gin Road”
Playing at: Mercury Lounge (217 E. Houston St., East Village)

In an indie landscape dominated by synthy dance-rock and shoegazing art-rock, the Georgia-based boys of Ponderosa are making something almost radical: good old fashioned post-Skynyrd Southern rock. “Old Gin Road,” which manages to pack three symbols of Americana into a single track name, starts out as a straight ahead whiskey-breath tailgate anthem before detouring towards a four-on-the-floor sound somewhere around the bridge.
