"Colors"

Jersey-born songstress April Smith has some truly devoted fans. Last June, Smith asked her admirers to help her raise $10,000 through the fundraising site Kickstarter.com so that she could record a new album. By September she had over $13,000, and last month Smith and her band the Great Picture Show released their fan-funded album Songs for a Sinking Ship. Not bad for a group that's still without a recording contract. On this winsome track from the record, Smith and the GPS marry sassy modern pop with retro folkiness in a foot-stomping, sea shanty-esque tune about awaiting the return of a far-away sweetheart.
