Tune-Yards is the project of Merrill Garbus, the ukulele wielding woman who just finished months of touring with Dirty Projectors. Garbus recorded her debut album, Bird Brains, on a digital voice recorder and mixed it herself using free software. But don't think that means her sound is simple -- in fact, found audio of children talking and multiple layered vocal tracks make for raucous and textured music.
