In Studio: Trombone Shorty

Monday, November 14, 2011

Troy Andrews - aka Trombone Shorty - has been a busy bandleader. In just the last few years, the New Orleans native hit #1 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart, made multiple appearances on HBO’s Treme, and found the time to record a brand new album called “For True.” The Grammy-nominated Andrews and his band bring their “Supafunkrock” sound live to our studio.

Trombone Shorty is the type of positive attitude and boost that NOLA needs! He is proud of his roots and loves what he does...it shows. He and his band are downright awesome.

Please do not criticize this young man. As talented as he is, he could be anything. Every time I've seen him, he chose gracious! We love "Trombone Shorty" and Orleans Avenue, and wish them continued success in all they do.

@native newyorker: newcomers-how about missplaced "oldcomers"?
what a dumb, historically decontextualized comment. and dumb, is too kind a word...

Most people don't know how this neighborhood is historically relevant to the city and the music world in general. I think Shorty was trying to convey that the folks who had to leave have been replaced by people who don't know the Treme's significance. It may have come across as being arrogant, but know that some people have come into NOLA and "re-gentrified" the neighborhoods and have had made unreasonable demands, not knowing how things work. You just gotta live there to understand it. Shorty is a true sweetheart and has grown up to be quite an ambassador.

His comments sounds like he doesn't like newcomers to his neighborhood.

Bad attitude is not good for business.
