Club’s Steve Hyden join us to decipher New York references on the rap trio’s latest release, as well as on earlier albums.

FYI:
The Dylan quote is a reference to the pump on Bard College's campus... two of the Beasties went to Bard, although both dropped out. Dylan used to hang out on Bard's campus in the late 60s.

One night around 1989, I was in the beer section of a bodega on the same block as the Spring Street Lounge in Little Italy, and found myself next to the Beastie Boys, who asked me to recommend a good beer. I thought there was something quaintly innocent about up and coming music stars asking a perfect stranger about something so simple as what beer to brown bag. They also looked so young I half expected them to ask me to buy it for them.
