Listening to Fugazi with Ted Leo

Thursday, December 01, 2011

From its beginnings in 1987 the DC-based punk band Fugazi was known for its fierce independence. The group went on indefinite hiatus in 2003, but for years held onto a trove of more than 800 self-made recordings -- chronicling 15 years of live shows. Today, as the Fugazi Live Series launches, musician Ted Leo joins us for a listen back.

When I was a freshman, a senior girl in my French class made a mix for me, which included Fugazi. Steady Diet of Nothing got me through high school. Still one of the most intense live bands I've ever seen.

I first heard about Fugazi in 1991 in the car with my dad on NPR. I was in the sixth grade. Changed everything.
