Christian Scott is a Grammy nominated jazz trumpeter and composer from New Orleans who became known for his "whisper technique." Through his breathing temperature and articulation, he can produce a sound more like a whispering human voice. He joins us to play live songs from his new album, "Yesterday You Said Tomorrow."

Christian sounds great. You are right about Ginsberg. I played music with him for 20 years. Every summer, he taught a course at the Kerouac School at Naropa University where he surveyed poetry from Sappho to the late twentieth century. The Beat poets' portrayal in the media seems to have created the impression that you don't need to know anything to be an artist. Allen's art, and the art of strongly-rooted musicians like Christian shows that, as Cecil Taylor told my class at music school "you have to know your roots." Love your show. Thx!
Great song. The first "stop and listen" moment I've had since Garage a Trois a while back. Love that shuffling drumming too.
It is so nice to hear Christian doing so well and speaking with such a unique instrumental, compositional, voice. There is so much unsaid pressure to maintain the musical status quo in New Orleans that it takes a brave soul to speak with his own voice. I used to play with Christian in Donald Harrison's band when he was 14. What a great musical life he has lead already.
