Canteca de Macao

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Flamenco... with ska and a juggler. Canteca de Macao is a young group based in Madrid that mixes flamenco with rumba, rock and reggae, and their shows look like a circus spectacle. They join us to play live songs about the Earth, water... and wine.

ran out right after my comment last night. caught them live at the highline. they do indeed cook, but live they cook with more of an intermitant blowtorch, than a steady flame-still great stuff!

In live they are incredible. They starting playing in the streets of Madrid, but their background is wide. All of them are incredible performances. Anita (lead voice) has developed a beautiful voice. Zulo (zulo means hole in Basque language) is amazing juggling!
You see them you love them

Lo mas impresionante es su directo, el buen rollo que emiten, su frescura y su entrega.Todo ello sin dejar a un lado su calidad musical.

this is a music band from madrid and musics from spain and other coutries. The base style of the group is rumba, flamenco mixed with ska, reggae...
And he is not estrella morente, estrella morente is a "cantaora"- singer- of flamenco, is a different style.

It works. It worked a moment ago. They just don't have the bandwidth for all this traffic. I suppose it's a good problem for them to have.

OMG I LOVE her voice! She sounds just like Estrella Morente. Wait - is this Estrella Morente? If not, does she get the comparison often?

Gorgeous. I am buying this STAT.
