How about some JAZZ, which is America's Music, for America's sport, football???
I think they should have Neil young do a 12 minute version of "This Notes for You".
Can you please have Prince back? And yes - Up with People!
Since when had the Superbowl, groundswell of advertising, ever been edgy?! A testosterone-soaked pantomime of para-military behavior norms is NOT a fertile forum for edge. I'll stick with bypassing the event entirely, and watch Puppy Bowl instead.
Just for the record, I cringe whenever I hear the phrase "wardrobe malfunction," and can't wait for it to die out.
I don't watch the Super Bowl, but I agree with Jason and Michael: It would be a nice idea to spotlight marching bands in the half-time show.
Why is it automatic that the show has to be "Rock"???? It just goes to show that they aiming at the lowest common denominator audience.
All the time.
I'm in shock that the people that set up and break down the show are volunteers! The NFL doesn't have enough money to pay the people doing all this work? Gross.
Maybe Mr. Mischner can get those volunteers who put the show together and pulled it apart, to go to Haiti or the next disaster area to look for victims.... seems like it would be a far better use of their time, effort, and skills.
The Superbowl halftime show is a lot like the pro-bowl. It is an honor to be included in it, but no one really cares.
Also, like the pro-bowl, the Artists are playing a different "game" than they normally would, with medleys and "special guests", leading to a sub-par performance.
I'm with Jason [1], bring back marching bands -- something that gives the anonymous folks a chance to be seen.
But let's face it, for decades the "events" just keep getting bigger, fatter, more overblown, more hyped.
And the "entertainment" is always "Rock", too often another over-the-hill-just-hanging-on-for-the-money band, they wheel out of the old-age home to do this.
I haven't watched a Super Bowl halftime show in years. It is just one big snore. You are welcome to it.
What ever happened to the great American tradition on marching bands during half time?
Why don't they have a marching band competition a la American Idol where two marching bands face off and people call in to vote for their favorite?
