Nu Whirled Music

Monday, August 30, 2010

As our world becomes smaller, and cultural information can spread as rapidly as a URL is typed, notions of so-called world music are changing. On today’s show we’ll look at two ends of the spectrum. Ethan Smith of the The Wall Street Journal, tells us about a new world citizen “supergroup” funded by a Lebanese-born industrial magnate and comprised of a selection of musicians from Nigeria, China, India, Algeria and the US. And Wayne Marshall, of the blog Wayne and Wax joins us to talk about World Music 2.0 or Nu Whirled Music, where, he says, technology is rapidly altering both music production and listening practices around the world.

Today's Playlist:

1- Paul Simon – Diamonds on the Soles of Her shoes

2- Schlachthofbronx – Vem Que Tem

3- Pangea- Citizens of the World

P90X Extreme Home Fitness Workout Program
This product is what I expected from the infomercial - the infomercial is a good representation of what you'll get. The DVDs are good, come in a small case (no excess packaging to exaggerate or compensate for lack of real product). The accompanying written materials are good too.
However, I found that I wasn't quite in shape enough when p90x arrived to use it well. I went back and bought Tony Horton's "Power Half Hour" and used that for a few weeks first - had to wake up some muscles I've let go dormant. I've been in good shape most of my life, but kind of got lazy lately - I needed to get a basic foundation before I could jump into the incredible workouts he provides.

jeez,a guy makes a throw away comment on soundcheck, and it is taken as having the gravity of the magna carta.
i dig experimentation,if squirrel farts are the order of day, then let the flatulence begin. my beef,is re a contrived conjoining of people,ie.pangea,to create something that is much more of a product for mass consumption than a work of art. that's it..

Well, It's easy to take the 'holier than thou' attitude towards music, but then, hopefully ag from nj is recording his ironic brand of badly miked squirrel fart samples and detuned cellos to remind us that music is about discovery and experimentation and not about making a great product and selling it.

I think pens are too commercial as well, why don't you all us quills?
