Rowdy fans of the horror-rap group Insane Clown Posse, or “Juggalos,” made headlines recently after pelting singer Tila Tequila and rapper Method Man with rocks and other objects at a live music festival in Illinois.

Camille Dodero of the Village Voice attended the concert; she tells us what she saw from the stage. And: Slate.com pop music critic Jonah Weiner and Insane Clown Posse fan Jason Shaltz break down Juggalo culture in another installment of our occasional Superfans series.

This is a pretty facetious representation of their music--there's swearing but not more than all other sorts of rap, but you present it as if it's WAY more offensive.

A critical explanation of the music is here:

The RZA had a(n excellent) horror-rap side project called the Gravediggaz from the mid-90s, which I love. ICP? No thanks...

I always thought they were closer to goths - bands like Nine Inch Nails and Type O neggative are dark with more violent undertones than the "weepy" Emmo (sp?) That said the entire thing scares me, I'm a peaceful hippy myself. Deadheads probably would have gotten bored and wandered away from the stage, while a few really stoned ones would have said "right on Tila, do your thing."

Leave it to caucasians to take it to a demonic level...this is clearly not hip hop or rap. Please don't mention Jay Z again in the same sentence with these lame lunatics!

Uh, they were throwing more than rocks. But hey, it's an Insane Clown Posse show. Don't condone it; however, not surprising. Why any promoter would put Tila Tequila (no talent) or Method Man (more talent than ICP) on the same stage with ICP is beyond me.
