The Jack Quartet

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

The Jack Quartet is an explosive young string quartet that specializes in new music. And occasionally, really old music. They take on pretty much anything, except the usual string quartet repertoire. They play live in our studio.

Hi Thomas, Thanks for listening to the broadcast today. The first piece you heard us play is an excerpt from a new quartet by New York Composer Caleb Burhans. We are premiering the piece on Friday at the Library of Congress in Washington DC (they commissioned it). We will also be performing it next week at the Look and Listen Festival in New York City and more importantly, as I see you are from Germany, we will be performing it at the Darmstadt festival this summer! The other piece we played is an excerpt from a new quartet by another New York based composer Hannah Lash. We will also be premiering this work at the Look and Listen Festival next week.

Good stuff. If these guys play practically anyhthing, then I'd like to hear them do some film music, or in particular, a piece from Robert Fripp called "Prelude: Song of the Gulls" which is from the King Crimson "Islands" albums. Think about guys.
