*checks date* Nope... not April Fool's Day.
John, John, John... what were you thinking?
*runs to laundry room to bleach eyeballs*
I'm astounded that you would have a sleaze like PH on your show. You not only demeaned your show but you insulted your listeners! Yikes!
I'm really upset that John chooses to go this route. Don't you have any standards? If you can't rise above the dumbing down of our society who will? This guy had absolutely nothing to say. He did nothing to heighten my appreciation of music and culture. His tastes are shallow and mediocre.
It makes me wonder why you'd want to alienate such a large percentage of your audience. Do you think you're going to attract 16 year old teeny boppers with celebrity bloggers? THEY'RE ALL IN SCHOOL AT THIS TIME!
Please try and focus on the arts and culture that elevate us, not bring us down to the lowest common denominator.
I listen to WNYC to be informed and to get away from incessant celebrity culture, but I was really saddened to hear Perez say, basically, that "because Kanye is a 'genius' (Perez's words), he can do what he wants." I have no opinion on either Kanye or Taylor Swift, but how about a smackdown to West's willfully and selfishly hurting another person in a moment that belonged to her, not to him, rather than letting Perez excuse it? I hear my grandmother saying shame on you.
The stuff this guy is championing is pure disposable pop crap du jour that no one will remember.
But no need to slam Soundcheck and John!
Also, I happen to LOVE "Silly Love Songs"! Paul gets a bad rap.
It's a sad day when Perez Hilton gets time on my favorite radio station. In my opinion, Perez Hilton represents the polar opposite of why I listen to WYNC. He's not the "Queen of All Media", he's the king of all mediocrity. His career consists of trashing people. And the music he's promoting is yet another example of the mediocrity that is dragging this country down. All of the bands he's pushing are incredibly narcassistic, and driven by image more then substance. And in the interview, he talks about promoting positive things such as gay rights, but 2 months ago he called somebody a "faggot".
WNYC, I'm really growing dismayed by the mediocrity epidemic that's sweeping this nation. Please don't become part of it.
Perez Hilton…zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Peres Hilton's musicians…ZZZZZZZZZZ
John, Where's Jerry from Queens when you really need him?
Sounds like the bloggers are celebs in thier own minds .
I should have signed up for a drinking game - every time Perez says "Amazing."
Soundcheck has lost a lot of credibility with me today, with giving any time or consideration of this blogging character. The fact that he is starting an imprint should be on his blog, or on MTV or something. Not on WNYC.
I have now turned off the radio (which I usually leave on all day to WNYC), and am listening to real music.
John, you sounded ashamed of yourself, and you should be. Have some balls and tell whoever made you put this character on your show to go to hell next time.
He's still on?!? How many segments is he gonna get?
And he doesn't hear the difference between two obvious songs? Congrats you guys, you've found another musical authority to refer to.
This Perez Hilton is a vacuous canker sore of a human being. Why the EFF is he on WNYC?!?!?! Is this what listeners of thoughtful radio programming want?
I'm livid. Angry to the point of spitting venom. This is a waste of show and a lowering of the bar for what I expect of NPR.
Hilton's day job is drawing coke lines on celebrity photos and we're giving him exposure?
You guys could have ran any number of Encore shows, but you chose this...
Uggggghhh! This is mind numbing! I'm going to listen to my itunes.
Here, Here! I am a musician and I say get this guy off of here! C'mon John S. (or whomever programs this Soundcheck) you guys can do better than this. This show has been consistently disappointing lately.
There are sooooo many great musicians in NYC that work REALLY hard at being the best and most original they can. I thought that's what Soundcheck was about?
Who cares what this loser thinks. He's obviously a failed musician that is now trying desperately to not have a day job like the rest of us.
Booo!
this is terrible.
ugh.
come on, john.
This is one of the first Sound Checks that I've had to turn off. This makes the music the cars on my street are blasting sound appealing. Please, no more Lady Gaga.
Really? The two most annoying, trite songs I have ever heard (okay, except maybe Muskrat Love and Silly Love Songs) are the two BEST of the (did he say?) decade!
Yeah, time to turn off the radio.
wouldn't it be nice if we could have Rez Abbasi for the full hour?
What is becoming of this station? I turn to WNYC because I want to escape celebrity trash, not hear more of it filtered through John Schaefer. Please, give us something intelligent!
I had no idea there was such crap music out there to be discovered! Thanks!
I agree, npr and perez hilton please, perez hilton's audience is tweens and teens. I don't think they are listening to npr right now.
Why? Why?! WHY??!!!!
First Lopate has Blago and Geraldo, now this (other) clown is a guest on Soundcheck?!
UGH!
