And the Winner Is...
Tuesday, September 08, 2009
Soundcheck gave you the challenge and you delivered. We've asked listeners to create the next video for the indie-rock band Fiery Furnaces. Joining us is our winner, Zachary Bennett (pictured), and our judge, Rik Cordero, of Three/21 Media, and the Fiery Furnaces themselves. We hear about the surreal images "The End is Near" evoked.

Clif from Brooklyn, are you a 3 chord musical hipster?? Everything sucks attitude? Just what bands would you call "artistic"? I bet they suck, but not as much as your music! You stick to your basic 3 get laid chords, and never change, never experiment. Yeah your music sounds awesome, and artistic.
I guess this is what it looks like when the world ends in a whimper...
I thought this was a great video. I read a lot of science fiction & have for many years. This is so SciFi.
Great Job. It was fun to watch. Judging from the previous comments, those people are do not read Science Fiction.
I loved it. And, everything floating up at the end was perfect.
Huh? I don't get why this won. Being a "sucker for slow motion" isn't a good enough.
I think you need to find a new judge. Someone who actually knows something about videos. I'm sorry for the band that has to use this video.
sorry, i don't understand why this one won. I couldn't make it that far to watch the end. I thought it was lame.
I'm very disappointed that Rik Cordero's reason for selecting the winner was that he's "a sucker for slow motion." That's like choosing a song in a contest as the winner for the use of a guitar. Slow motion is not original, and it's not even an idea. Promos for the contest stressed the idea of a good story would be a better contender, not just a technique. And the winning video's story is not that interesting. Cordero didn't even know what the director was going for when he selected it... I'm sorry to say I'm disappointed.
Don't really enjoy the song, but am more interested in the video. My big complaint is it doesn't define who these people are and why I should be watching them. No I don't want to hear their life story, but I do want to know why it is important that I spend part of my life watching theirs.
So the dude "against" YouTube mentioned Facts of LIfe...which reminds me...
The show with the mentally handicapped guy that Blair falls for!? Oh, yeah. Tom Byrd. I went to college with him....
Oh, there it is!
Twenty seconds later.
Yes, I'm ON the side of You Tube!!!
This is scaring me! I'm witnessing the decline of music and it hurts! I'm a musician and can't help but wonder how groups like this make it on Soundcheck. I'm NOT out to offend and NOT just throwing insults. To me, they should be called the lack-of-fire furnaces. I hear no passion and very little musicality. The vocal phrasing sounds like someone trying to keep up but not quite getting the rhythms right.
Sorry, but this is a BIG thumbs down for me and I really miss the days when music was at least a little more artistic.
What is YOU TUBE? Some of us have managed to avoid the useless distactions thrown at us daily. BUT...still hip enough to listen to John! mmm
