Kailash Kher

Monday, November 09, 2009

It’s a story a la Slumdog Millionaire: Kailash Kher used to live in cheap hotels in Mumbai while pursuing a music career. He is now one of Bollywood’s biggest stars and a judge on the TV show Indian Idol. He joins us with his band for a live performance.

Guests:

Kailash Kher.

I am disappointed by the content of the blurb posted for this interview. Kailash has clearly denied that his struggle for becoming an artist is not a la Slumdog Millionaire. This is blasphemy as the promoters are simply using this as a promotional tactic.

I'm so glad that i can still hear this in this site. Kailash Kher is an amazing person, singer and artist. Free soul and beautiful mind !. Glad that I'm living while he is alive, making music. I hope he comes to korea, too. This Radio show is totally blessed and honored to have this legendary artist!

Anita's request is dead on.

I was hoping they would do that song too.

There's a beautiful story behind it, about how it's about the last moments of Kailash's father's life (he passed away late last autumn). To hear him tell it, his father had been chanting happily and loudly in the morning before his death, and after his passing, when people came to see him at the family home in Delhi, they said that the father's smile on his face made him look like a baby who had just seen his mother. It's an achingly beautiful song.

John, it's a pity we didn't have more of Kailash Kher and less of the "doctor". While he was amusing, it left very little time for any meaningful conversation with Kher at all. I hope you'll have him on again some time, and also ask him to sing Dilruba.

we were left high and dry with your performance at hollywood bowl... just when we thought we were going to finally enjoy some soulful music, you guys walked off the stage...could you perform aaj mere pia ghar aavenge from chaandan mein. its the most mystical and trance inducing song ever. it makes one feel like we just took a flight and are still floating.

He writes a lot about love and longing and spirituality... does he also believe that the kind of love he paints into his songs, is possible between 2 people??? common people like you and me???

Indian Idol was last season. Now he's on MTV India's show called Rock On (after the title of a successful 2008 Hindi movie about 4 guys who were in a bad when they were younger). It's a reality show about contestants from all around India who are mixed and matched into various combinations and compete.
