Future for Four

Thursday, May 14, 2009

Some of the most time-honored, experienced string quartets are calling it quits. Now, younger ensembles are aiming to fill their shoes. Joining us for a look at the future of string quartets are Guarneri String Quartet violist Michael Tree, Chiara String Quartet violist Jonah Sirota, and Ronen Givony of the Wordless Music Series.

Soundcheck blog: John Schaefer on the new sound of the string quartet

Guests:

Ronen Givony, Jonah Sirota and Michael Tree

I am a 25-year-old from "Gen Y" and have become a classical listener since college. It's great to hear about such a long lineage of string quartets from the Guarnery (sp?) to Kronos and your guests. It's so fascinating to me to hear how the old groups seem like an aged wine and the young groups like some snazzy micro-brew. Thanks for the great segment.
