« previous episode | next episode »

Friday, December 18, 2009

In just ten years, the no-frills garage rock of bands like the Strokes gave way to the arty experimentation of Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear. Meanwhile, rap abandoned its dusty grooves for a more polished pop sound. Today, we conclude our Critics' Week series with a look at the decade in rock and hip hop. And: electronic artist Bit Shifter talks about this weekend's Blip Festival.

The winners of Soundcheck's Listeners Poll are:
Rock: Radiohead – Kid A
Pop: Amy Winehouse – Back to Black
Rap: MIA – Kala
Jazz: Herbie Hancock – River: The Joni Letters
Classical: Steve Reich: Music for 18 Musicians; Grand Valley State University New Music Ensemble (Innova)
World: Slumdog Millionaire: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
