Thursday, December 17, 2009
It was the decade when movie theaters started showing opera, and the LA Philharmonic hired a 28-year-old whose nickname was "The Dude" to run the show. Today, Critics' Week continues with a look at the decade in classical and opera music. Anne Midgette, chief classical music critic of the Washington Post, joins us to share her picks.

Thank you for mentioned Golijov in your blog. He has to be the composer of the decade and each one of his records has been an exciting, fascinating, moving GEM. I'm surprised that Anne did not find room for him on her list!
What about Golijov Anne? Or Philip Glass? Reich? Hello....
SF-based early Music Group Magnificat resurrected the estatic compositions of the Benedictine nun, Cozzolani in grand fashion.
Not only this, but they are taking a page from Radiohead and releasing the music online at a pay-your-own rate via their blog.

Tell Anne it's 'Pull-it-tser' NOT 'Pyoo-lit-tser' (Pulitzer).
AM is sorrily missed!
The Met has spent too much money and emphasis
on HD this and That. That is not the art form.
Gelb has been a disaster for the Met and the numbers and time will tell.
Shameless self promotion as opposed to helping out the art form or the organization. I for one miss the old Met for some kind of integrity that I cannot put my finger on.
Great decade for classical. I loved the Ana Trebko Recordiings. hot!
John, who are the SINGERS on that 50's Wagner recording???
Dont have a choice for classical album of the decade, but my vote for radio personality of the decade goes to John Schaefer.Great work, keep it going.Happy Birthday too !!!!!
