Imogen Heap

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

Imogen Heap started writing songs at age 13 and a few years later taught herself how to do sampling and production with an Atari. She has since mixed and produced most of her albums herself. She joins us to play live songs from her new record, Ellipse.

and again, @RandoWithASando from Brooklyn, she put out an album at the age of 20, fully composed and written at 19, titled i Megaphone, prior to becoming involved with Frou Frou... it certainly was not a "shabby job".

@RandoWithASando from Brooklyn... frou frou was a collaboration effort with guy sigsworth. she provided vocals, and together, they composed & wrote music, and played instruments.

To Imogen: not only is your music beautifully original, but so is your name. My 7 month old daughter is named Imogen, so I would (selfishly) love for you to become a HUGE success in the US if only so people will pronounce my daughter's name correctly. It's not Imogeeeene, for Pete's sake! No pressure, but our family's happiness is in your hands. ;-) Be well. Can you also do an outdoor concert in NYC please?

Thanks Immi, loved that 'Half Life' performance and thanks for the 'vokle-cast' last night, waited up till 4 in the morning for that :)

Can you please ask Immi to record an acoustic version of 'Wait it out', I heard her performance at 'poptech' and it was bloody awesome and would love her more than I do if she recorded that version.

Wasn't Imogen Heap in that band Frou-Frou first? Which was signed on a couple big US majors and put out albums with the full court press of traditional music marketing? Not take away from her success as a solo artist, but painting her as a straight myspace-to-riches story seems a bit misleading, IMHO.

Only time will tell, but I don't think artists/musicians can build long lasting careers only on singles. Singles alone do not make a body of work.

In addition to creating some of the best music available today, Imogen has truly become a pioneer in using technology to connect with her fans. While she frequently collaborates with other artists one gets the sense she prefers to "go it alone" with regard to production. How much of this attitude was influenced by her experiences surrounding her first album?

Love the new CD!

Please tell Imogen Heap that her new album is the best 40th birthday present I could have asked for! Yes, her audience is wide and varied. The first music in a long long while that just might have my husband & I "camping out" for concert tickets. :-) Anne
