NOLA: Rebuild ... and Remember

Monday, April 20, 2009

The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, better known as Jazzfest, kicks off this week. We find out if music from that city risks being forgotten almost four years after Hurricane Katrina. We talk with jazz critic Larry Blumenfeld and the New Orleans percussionist and vocalist Cyril Neville.

The lead to the story is correct - it's not easy in the Big Easy. I'm a seasonal resident (summer: NYC - winder: NOLA) I'm paying just as much for my rent in NOLA as I do in BKLYN. However, when friends visit, and I provide the 'devastation tour', the re-building gets better every time, not great, but better. Come on down! Jazz Fest this wknd!
