Diego Barber

Friday, April 10, 2009

The Saharan Air Layer is a dry, warm wind that blows from North Africa to the Canary Islands, off the coast of Spain, the home country of jazz guitarist Diego Barber. That wind was an inspiration to Barber on his new album, "Calima." He joins us for a live performance in our studio.

True that much of jazz guitar is played on archtops with steel strings but NYC boasts several fine jazz players using classical instruments. Foremost is Gene Bertoncini, a truly formidable soloist. Paul Bollenback and Mark Hatfield are players and composers whose use of the classical guitar is not to be missed.
