The financial crisis pops up in new songs from Neil Young, Prince, rapper Jadakiss and others. Washington Post pop music critic J. Freedom du Lac and rapper Khujo of the Georgia duo Willie Isz talk about how an economic recession has inspired musicians.

That's his "Camille voice." LOL
While not directly related to the crisis, Prince's "Money Don't Matter 2 Night" is my idea of an economic recession song.
Here's a song I wrote, "I Want a Bail Out"

Enjoy!

i dont agree that songs that are specific to these times will be outdated. these are times that are unique and all these huge corporations, investment firms, etc. didnt exist in the past . names like aig will come to define these times.
Brother can you spare a dime:
from measuringworth.com the current value of a dime is:
Current data is only available till 2008. In 2008, $0.10 from 1932 is worth:
$1.58 using the Consumer Price Index
$1.34 using the GDP deflator
$4.82 using the unskilled wage
$9.97 using the nominal GDP per capita
$24.30 using the relative share of GDP
Wow, a dime was a lot of money to be asking for when that song came out.
Prince sounds more like Macy Gray on hellium
Hey John,
Prince's website is not lotusflower.com, it's lotusflow3r.com
We haven't even scratched the surface of what new music will be generated in these tough times. People will be hungry for music that is more relevant, inspiring, and independently produced. (Hopefully...)
This song sums it all up for me:

Hello,
I (like so many others) have been hit hard by the recent distress of Wall Street, the Auto companies bailouts etc. I grew up in Detroit and have some family still living there and they are really having a hard time, even getting a job at McDonalds to keep food on the table. I created a video that is posted on youtube.com

On CNN HLN two weeks ago

UNIQUE:
My efforts and wish is to seed the foundation I created at the same time: it is called www.imlookingforabailout.com I am taking 50% of all proceeds from the sale of this song and putting it in there and hoping other musicians, artists, donations etc will help ourselves by giving it to families who need it most.
The other proceeds will go to help out others in my community that are having hard times here... schools have no money, athletic programs and music programs being let go... folks having a hard time getting food.
Perhaps I can get it in an album of artists contributing is forthcoming as well. The hard working men and women and families hit hardest. I am hoping to help put food on their table, help them keep a roof over their heads, and give children a safe place to have sweet dreams again. A reality TV show is certainly an option for a producer.
I have already had families and individuals contact me with their stories and what their needs are. There is a great need out there!
It has interestingly started (been attributed to this song and idea) to an organization in Australia www.myspace.com/fireresistance
Thank you in advance for your consideration and time!
Sincerely.
Tom Henry
