Groups like Amadou & Mariam, from Mali, and Buraka Som Sistema, from Angola, blend electro-pop and urban dance forms. Music journalist Will Hermes joins us to explain.

A year or two ago I heard a recording of a night in Mali when an American musician went there and invited all the best singers to a jam session at a club.
I don't know whether it was your program or not, but it was one of the greatest programs I ever heard.
