The British rock band Oasis hit it big in the ‘90s with hits like "Wonderwall" and "Champagne Supernova." But fistfights, rock 'n' roll decadence, and a string of underwhelming albums took their toll. Now, Oasis are staging a comeback with the upcoming album “Dig Out Your Soul.” We talk with Jeff Gordinier, who interviewed the group for Details magazine.

Laughing at the Dude's comments... They were essentially "reality TV" in the tabloids back then. It is suprising they haven't turned up in "The Gallagher's"... Let's hope their royalty checks are still coming in...
John, I liked your guest but can you work your magic and bring on Oasis themselves next????
I don't know what the real story is but there must be some story about Noel's song writing abilities because the hits from their first releases were terrible to me but undeniably well crafted pop songs. He must have had some secret book of poems he was stealing those lyrics from and it only had enough for two albums. Oasis has completely lost its pop abilities. Their current sound is a meandering mess totally devoid of musical or lyrical hooks. They are sooooooooooooooo boring now. The kind of boring they used to be now seems exciting.

I must have been unconscious during the '90's . . . was working at an oldies station . . . but, I have no recollection of Oasis. But, from the two clips you just played, they sure do sound like they were influenced by the Beatles . . . a lot!
Oasis is not a significant band other than that they're a band of jerks.
They have catchy songs which I have enjoyed, but essentially nothing they have done is new or interesting. They're like Blink 183, catchy, but nothing truly memorable.
The only surprising thing is that they haven't become complete corporate shills doing a reality TV show - or have they and I've not kept up.
This is not a defense of Blur or Radiohead, I don't think much of those bands either. Though I will say Radiohead seems to try to be innovative and do interesting things... I really don't think they succeed, but I think it's clear they at least try.
A lot of '90s bands don't need to get their fame back because they kept that fame going into the next decade, like Radiohead, or because they threw in the towel when it was the right time, as Pavement did in 1999/2000.
The reason Oasis and other bands from the '90s can't "get their fame back" is because they're not good anymore; they're irrelevant. That might be owing to the Gallaghers' unearned smugness and disrespect to their influences. Remember their ludicrous claim that their first two albums were "better than the Beatles'"? And the comment we just heard on the air -- That they don't "challenge [their] listeners because [their] listeners pay for [Gallagher's] pool" -- further indicates their being out of touch with what makes music good. This is why no one cares about Oasis and why Radiohead remains the world's pre-eminent rock band. Radiohead is as much a '00s band as a '90s band. Oasis never will "get its fame back."
Oasis and Blur were great bands. But, the better rivalry was The Dandy Warhols and The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
