Janis Ian

Wednesday, October 22, 2008

Janis Ian was just 15 years old when she wrote about interracial love in the controversial 1966 hit "Society's Child." In the years that followed, she took drugs with Jimi Hendrix, won two Grammy awards and suffered a nervous breakdown. The singer-songwriter joins us to talk about her new memoir, named after that '66 hit.

I came across an online community for individual seeking interracial love. It is ++++((((---Blackwhitemeet. C O M))))++++ All singles there are seeking interracial relationships. Interracial is not a problem here, but a great merit to cherish!

one of the great treats of the recent re-broadcast of the very first saturday night live (in honor of george carlin's death--he was the host) was janis ian's appearance as one of the musical guests playing "at seventeen" and looking quite extraordinary.
it was riveting to see that performance again.

I heard "Society's Child" on the radio while I was driving home. I haven't heard it in YEARS! This segment reminds me of how wonderful my parents were, for they owned this album and I listened to it when I was young - never thinking that it was radical.

Unfortunately, we only have to look at the events of the past few weeks, during McCain's town hall stops, to see that racism and ignorance still exists. The hateful things being shouted out about Obama makes me wonder how much has really changed since the 60s.
