On the latest album from Of Montreal, “Skeletal Lamping,” songwriter Kevin Barnes summons his inner Prince and coos, “We can do it soft-core if you want, but you should know I go both ways.” Barnes joins us to talk about his latest psychedelic sonic romp, and we’ll hear an acoustic performance live in our studio.

What a great version of this song. I love it.
hahahaha!!!! too funny!!
the fact that you talentless haters who " are all listening to The Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus as you type the hideous comments posted above." and have zero knowledge of pop culture in the music world actually listened to the whole thing is awesome!
one of the best bands of the last decade!!!
WOW. of Montreal kicks ass. Lay off. I don't know what I would do without them. I have all of their albums, and I am currently trying to get most of their vinyls. THEY are amazing - and remarkable in concert.
Okay I have posted so many comments on this now, but thank you so much to everyone who is supporting them. I just feel awful seeing all of the comments that are so ridiculous....
I know that of Montreal wouldn't care anyway, but I just wish more people could see how truly brilliant they are.
OH MY GOD.
Okay. All of you...almost every single one of you who posted comments....are absolutely ridiculous.
First of all, you should NEVER critique music you know absolutely nothing about.
Have you EVER listened to anything else by them?
I'm guessing you have not.
Probably you are all listening to The Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus as you type the hideous comments posted above.
of Montreal is amazing and perfect.
Kevin Barnes is a genius.
And a SINGER.
My God....people have strange opinions.
How could you not recognize how wonderful of Montreal is?
great interview, great songs. it's too bad more people can't open their minds to see how awesome these guys are! keep up the good work!
of Montreal is incredible. I love you guys.
Bryan, I adore you.
Kevin, you are the reason for everything.
:)
You guys are great.
Of Montreal is ridiculously talented and Kevin Barnes is a phenomenal songwriter...
Check out "satanic panic in the attic" or "hissing Fauna" to hear some amazing production.
I loved hearing the stripped down versions of their songs. It is such a contrst from the electro style of the albums.
sorry you guys arent feeling it...thankfully lots of people are starting to realize and after over ten years and albums tOf Montreal is hitting the next level
So glad to see Of Montreal with some wider exposure. Their live show is not to be missed. Wish they'd talked more about their live shows in this segment.
it is neat to see that they riled up all these people, knowing now that they won't be reading any of it. of montreal has been moving forward, doing their own thing for many years. i really enjoyed the segment and appreciate what they are doing.
I can honestly say that the live performance I heard today by this band was absolutely horrible. Probably the worst I've ever heard on Soundcheck. Weak guitar playing, and annoying vocals.
It wasn't fun, and it wasn't funny.
I wanted to call in and tell the dude that it's no wonder you don't read (lie) reviews of your work.
I can't believe these guys actually had enough clout to even get on Soundcheck...
That was painful. Especially while the "singer" (Do I have to call him that?) was caterwauling at the end of the second song. There just wasn't anything melodic or harmonious about it!
That performance was truly painful.
Oh, and it’s a little mundane, but “lamping” is also the term used in construction for putting lamps (light bulbs/fluorescent tubes) in fixtures following a lamping schedule.
I wasn't going to post a comment critizing the usual negative tone that passes for musical critique, because that would in itself be a negative critique, but after listening to "Of Montreal" ...
Wow, it’s not just me… at 30 I was starting to feel over the hill and out of it for not being able to appreciate self-congratulatory non-review-reading because-my-feeling-might-get-hurt I-follow-no-rules-but-my-own-so-everything-I-do-will-be-perfect artist.
You've got to be kidding me. This sounds like a bad version of The Flight of the Concords without the humor...my my
Actually, I'm not always a fan of the live music played on Soundcheck but I like these guys and frankly, they sound more like David Bowie than Freddy Mercury or the Beach Boys.
lamping or "lampin'" is also slang for hanging out, "chillin'." (see PE's "cold lampin'".)
that was terrible and now I'm changing the station
