The Jupiter String Quartet

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

Earlier this year, the Jupiter String Quartet was awarded an Avery Fisher Career Grant, one of the most prestigious prizes in classical music. In residence at Lincoln Center's Chamber Music Society Two, the rising young group includes a married couple and two sisters. The foursome performs live in advance of their appearance at the Mostly Mozart Festival.

The Jupiter String Quartet will perform tomorrow night at the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse as part of The Mostly Mozart Festival. The show begins at 10:30.

Thanks for your comments. To William: you might try calling Lincoln Center's box office for more info on the ticket situation. We're not the best people to ask I'm afraid.

To Alaina: Glad you enjoyed the Jupiter! And yes, there are quartets that are playing in nightclubs and other alternative venues. The Chiara String Quartet is doing that fairly regularly. The Parker Quartet and the Escher Quartet are others that come to mind. And tonight, the Emerson String Quartet is playing at Joe's Pub. It's definitely an interesting trend and one we're looking to follow on Soundcheck!

What an inspiring group with exciting ideas! I grew up with string music and miss it, but the whole atmosphere of the classical world just doesn't fit with my lifestyle. It would be wonderful to be able to show up at a music club on the LES, pay $10 at the door, and take in a night of chamber music with some wine and friends.

You mentioned that there ARE groups doing this. Who are they and where do they play?

I was just looking for tickets for this event, but the lincoln Ctr. website is very unclear. They offer tickets at $40 each but also have a check box for a table for $40?
What does that mean,, can I get a table? Is if $40? Drinks are mentioned on the show.. are they available at a cash bar. Not too much info available there.
