The ballet world is in flux: Audiences are dwindling, companies are scrambling for new ideas, and two major ballerinas are retiring. We talk with two longtime dance critics, Apollinaire Scherr and Claudia LaRocco, about what should be saved as ballet moves forward.

I think the arts of dance and poetry are tied for last place in the amount of attention they get from the mainstream media. More coverage of the dance by the media--including public radio--will help build audiences.

Thank you for scheduling this segment with two of our field's prominent journalists. I hope that NPR (and especially WNYC) will make dance one of its regular beats.
