lighten up, Barbara. singers have been dying for love for years. Now they hav efries to go with that.
How about journalism that allows a little less hidden commercials and a little more criticism and confronting questions?(on public radio!) Some of those companies sell lies. how can the value of free, rebelious, if needed, music be sold for such a low price?
I wanted to register my dismay at hearing the Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girl" lyric "..you got me suicidal, suicidal" as the promo clip for Sound Check's piece on the McDonald's concert series. As a long standing WNYC member, I expect you to consider the messages subtly sent by what we hear on-air, and this message is especially upsetting - that teens would commit suicide over lost love interests. Given today's epidemic in teen suicide, I deplore this lyric (although the music/tunes are very catchy) and let my teen know that every time it plays. I still would rather I didn't hear this clip repeated on my favorite radio station, out of sensitivity to the subliminal message it sends.
