Although award-winning cabaret singer Maude Maggart's younger sister is Fiona Apple, Maggart has found her own niche: the American songbook. Called a "dedicated nostalgist" by The New York Times, she takes us down memory lane with a live performance. Political views and jazz have often gone hand in hand as illustrated by the music of legends like Charles Mingus, and Sonny Rollins as well as contemporary artists like Charlie Haden. Jazz critic Larry Blumenfeld joins us on the second half of our show to explore this tradition past and present through the latest album by The Charlie Haden Liberation Music Orchestra, among other musicians.
