« previous episode | next episode »

Tuesday, November 22, 2005

Reggaeton is arguably the hottest Latin music phenomenon to hit the radio waves. A fusion of Jamaican reggae with hip-hop and Spanglish lyrics, it's showing no signs of fading. But with all the hype, there are very few hit artists. Today, a closer look at who stands out in the genre. Also: Friday marks the biggest shopping day of the holiday season, and in advance, we look at the changing face of the music retail business. As big-box retailers and Starbucks are selling CDs, what is the place of the traditional CD store? Rolling Stone writer Steve Knopper discusses the state of the business. Finally, marking the 150th anniversary of Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass," we're joined by NYU Professor Karen Karbiener, who sheds light on the Brooklyn writer's connections to music.
